Strike: ASUU discloses when universities will resume
when universities will resume
: The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) National President Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke has stated that if the Federal Government meets the union’s requirements, classes could resume on Tuesday, July 5.
The 140 days of industrial action will come to a swift stop, according to Osodeko, who stated as much in an appearance on Channel Television’s Politics Today on Monday night, if the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government solves their complaints.
But he added that the strike would continue unless the FG honored the 2009 agreement and accepted the University Transparency and Accountability Solution (UTAS).
He claimed that although an agreement with the government had been reached, it had not yet been signed and that ASUU’s insistence on using its own generated payment platform, UTAS, is a key demand.when universities will resume.
He said, “As far as ASUU is concerned, the strike can end tomorrow. Asking me about when universities will resume is good.
We have finished the negotiation. If the government calls us now to come and sign the agreement, we will be there tomorrow.
“Let the government tell us they have finished testing the UTAS and we have accepted it, then we will call off the strike.
“When will they sign the agreement? When will they accept UTAS? Those are the two questions we should ask the Nigerian government.”
