PLASU SENATE STRATEGIZES FOR COMMENCEMENT OF ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

Senate of the Plateau state University Bokkos has approved the 2019/2020 academic calender.

The approval was made during the special Senate session held on Thursday after the long break occassioned by the COVID 19 Pandemic and the period loss due to the recent strike action.

According to the revised calendar, first semester lectures will commence on Monday 22nd March 2021 while reporting date for new and returning students, continuation of online registration and completion of course registration in faculties and departments has been slated to last between 8th and 20th of March 2021.

The academic calendar also shows that the first semester examination would hold between 31st May and 16th June 2021 while departmental and faculty boards will meet to consider first semester results between 22nd to 25th June 2021 ahead of the Senate meeting to approve the results on the 8th of July 2021.

According to the academic calendar, lectures for the second semester will commence on 28th June 2021.

Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Yohana Daniel Izam noted during the 68th special meeting of Senate that the abridged academic calendar is as a result of the global Covid-19 pandemic which has stalled academic activities in the university since March 2020.

He said the University will adopt technology to increase the speed of lectures delivery in a safe environment strictly in line with approved guidelines.

Professor Yohana Izam ordered faculties and departments to seek other creative ways to hold lectures using the ICT as academic activities kick off in earnest.

The Vice Chancellor also used the occasion to announce the employment of some essential staff to improve activities at Faculties and Departments to strengthen the administrative machinery.
Already the essential staff employed have gone through an in-house training programme organized by the Registrar of the University,Mr. Amos Mallo awaiting posting.

The approval of the 2019/2020 academic calendar follows the suspension of the strike action by the PLASU branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and other unions following some agreements signed with the Plateau state government.
