In View of Preserving Culture and History, Africans in Europe start novel scholarship to trace their roots in Plateau State[ Apply now]

Nigerians in Europe have opened a novel scholarship for research on minorities in their home country.

Plateau’s Bokkos Association, Europe Chapter is funding the study on their origin and cultures “as a means of preserving its culture and history,” an official announcement says.

It is informed by what officials term as “limited documentation of the history, language and culture of the people which invariably implies a high risk of losing so much treasure.”

According to the announcement, “The Bokkos Local Government Area is rich in both human and natural resources, not to mention its outstanding beautiful topography.

“It’s made up of people with diverse dialects; however united in their cuisine and cultural traditions.

“There has been very limited documentation of the History, language and culture of the people which invariably implies a high risk of losing so much treasure.

“In view of this, The Bokkos Association Europe Chapter has decided to undertake this project as a means of preserving its culture and History for posterity.”

The likely renewable research funding of N100,000 (£191.88/€223.19) per study is open to researchers, as well as undergraduate and post-graduate “interested in the study of any aspect of history, language or culture of Bokkos Local Government Area”.

Interested candidates are expected to send a 500 word proposal on any topic of interest in relating to the culture and customs of the Bokkos LGA to bokkosasseurope@gmail.com.

“It does not matter which tribe you choose to focus on or if you choose to compare and contrast,” Officials say.
