STRIKE: PLASU MANAGEMENT,ASUU DIALOGUE YEILD INTERIM RESULTS
Consultations between the Management of Plateau State University and the Academic Staff Union of Universities Plateau State University Bokkos Chapter has achieved significant progress in resolving issues brought on the table for discussion.
However,ASUU Plateau State University Chapter has demanded for three days to enable it consult with the National body of the Union with a view to resolving contending issues.
Declaring open the meeting, Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Yohana Daniel Izam appealed for understanding to fast tract the process of resolution of the impasse in the interest of the system as he expressed satisfaction with the joint verification of claims except for components that had to do with SIWES claims,field trips and training leave.
Professor Izam said the provision made by government will address a significant proportion of the verified claims while the template that has emerged will serve as a fulcrum on which EAA payments will be addressed with ease.The meeting agreed to an extension of three days to enable the 7 man Joint Committee Chaired by the University Bursar Mr.Lawrence Longsen Kerrekkum to reappraise three of the remaining contending components to enable them present a supplementary report for implementation.
The meeting also agreed that the committee will serve as a standing Committee which will maintain open door for the continuous review of EAA issues of the staff if approved by the Council as the University is growing and learning from older ones.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Plateau State University Bokkos Chapter, Dr. Monday Hassan Zitta appealed to the meeting to grant them three days to enable them consult at higher quarters and report back.
He used the opportunity to appreciate the Vice Chancellor and Management of the University for the concern shown to his family when he was abducted recently.
Also speaking,some members of the Joint Expanded Management and ASUU committee said from discussions held so far there are positive indications that an understanding will be reached in no distant time.
