Prof. Goselle Obed Nanjul Champions Plateau State’s Digital Transformation at National Council Meeting

The Honourable Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Plateau State, Prof. (Assoc) Goselle Obed Nanjul, recently led a distinguished delegation from Plateau State to the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy held in Makurdi, Benue State. The delegation included the Permanent Secretary- Mr Fidelis Daboer, the DG of PICTDA- Mr Datong Dominic, the ministry’s acting Director of ICT- Mr. Eugene Dalyop; Representatives from the Plateau State ministry of Information and communications and other senior directors of the MOSTI.

The council meeting, which took place from December 2 to December 6, 2024, brought together key stakeholders nationwide to discuss policies and strategies for advancing Nigeria’s digital economy and technological ecosystem. The high-profile event featured notable personalities, including the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy-Dr. Bosun Tijani; the Governor of Benue State, Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia; the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy; various state Commissioners; Permanent secretaries; directors; heads of parastatals; security agencies; private organizations; tech entrepreneurs; and other experts.

This year’s theme, “Accelerating the Adoption of Artificial Intelligence through Policy and Innovation for Sustainable Development,” underscored the critical role of technology and innovation in driving sustainable national development.

Prof. Goselle, celebrated for his forward-thinking approach, was a key contributor in discussions under the “Innovation, entrepreneur and trade” syndicate group, where he presented actionable strategies to harness technology for transformative change in Nigeria. He showcased Plateau State’s progress in science and technology, emphasizing projects aimed at improving ICT literacy & e-governance , fostering tech entrepreneurship, and building a resilient digital infrastructure. He also highlighted efforts to integrate digital tools into governance, education, and commerce in Plateau State.

The delegation also engaged with policymakers, industry leaders, and tech experts to explore opportunities for collaboration and funding. These engagements were geared towards accelerating Plateau State’s digital transformation and positioning it as a leader in Nigeria’s technological advancement.

The Council concluded with actionable recommendations, including policies to promote Artificial Intelligence adoption, responsible internet use, investment in digital skills development, and stronger public-private partnerships. Plateau State’s active involvement demonstrates its dedication to staying at the forefront of Nigeria’s technological revolution.

Under the leadership of His Excellency Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Plateau State is solidifying its reputation as a trailblazer in harnessing Science and Technology for sustainable development. Prof. Goselle’s impactful participation at the Council further cemented the state’s position as a critical player in Nigeria’s Innovation and Digital economy.
