Plateau Hackathon Grand Finale:Trash4Coin Emerges Winner
The Plateau State Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation has successfully hosted the grand finale of the Plateau Hackathon Project 2024 on December 20, 2024.
This milestone event, aimed at fostering youth development and homegrown initiatives, was the culmination of a journey that began with the inauguration of its committee on August 30, 2024.
As noted by the Personal assistant to the Commissioner of the ministry, Comr. Kantak Kumven Zion , the event attracted over 300 tertiary institution students who registered in two categories: Ideation & Design and Prototype. After rigorous judging, seven contestants pitched their projects, showcasing innovative solutions to local challenges.
The Trash4Coin group emerged as the overall winner, earning a grand prize of Three million naira for their transformative project that converts waste into value. Helen Gwofan the first runner-up and Mr. Okeke Johnson Ukechukwu the second runner-up received one million naira and five hundred thousand naira, respectively, for their outstanding innovations.
In his keynote address, Prof. Goselle Obed Nanjul, Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, expressed optimism about the future of technology in Plateau State and its potential to contribute to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Prof. Goselle reaffirmed the Plateau state government’s commitment, under the leadership of Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, to position Plateau State as a leader in the 4th and 5th industrial revolutions in Nigeria.
The Plateau Hackathon Project 2024, which drew the participation of tech experts, policymakers, and technocrats, underscores the state’s dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and nurturing local talents, paving the way for a brighter and more innovative future.
