PLASU S.U.G. DISSOLVED OFFICIALS, CARETAKER COMMITTEE SETS IN

Following the expiration of the mandatory one year tenure of both the Executive and the Legislative arms as stipulated in Section 46 of the constitution(contained in the Student’s handbook) of the Student Union Government, Plateau State University, Bokkos, and the urgent need to fill in the vacuum considering the glaring challenges staring education system in the state and the country that needs urgent and cogent efforts.

The union has on Friday April 23, 2021 Swears-in a 7 man Caretaker Committee to pilot the affairs of the Students pending the institution of the new members of the Executive and Parliamentary arm of the union through Electoral process.

The inauguration which took place at the Student’s center of the varsity saw Comr. Powok Walbe a 400 level student of mass communication dept, Comr. Tenbuet Desmond Liepdat as Chairman and Secretary rerespctively, Nathan Pam as P.R.O.

Others are; Comr. Shedrach Ranga, Selven Precious Tyem, Abraham Waptu and Didel Aliso Timothy as Members respectively.

Earlier in his speech, the vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Yohana Daniel Izam represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University, Dr. Nengak Jurji Gomos urge the caretaker committee to be proactive and steadfast in discharging their duty in the best interest of the students and by extension, the University community even in the face of unnecessary distractions.

He also caution the inaugurants to take their studies seriously and avoid forms of distructive social vices as good ambassadors of the school.

Also, the Dean, Students Affairs of the University, Dr. Jacob Nanbes advised members of the caretaker committee to operate an all inclusive governance and prays God to give them wisdom and strength to withstand temptation and other leadership challenges.

Those who witness the event were the Institution’s Security architecture, staff of the Students Affairs unit, the outgone President of the union, Comr. Ezekiel Luatei, Comr. Welga Joseph Yiltei who is the NANS JCC Plateau State Chapter’s Secretary and members of the union.

Highlight of the event were Aluta songs, and oath-taking administered by the varsity DVC.

The newly swore in caretaker committee are to serve in the place of the Electoral committee which over the years as been a tradition in the Union.

With the new change, this Implies that election will be move an conduct in the second semester of the session.

This decision however has been a welcome idea to some students and to some a controversy.

However in a chart with some past and Immediate outgone officials the idea and decision is key and necessary for the union growth.
