PLASU Matriculates 1,394 students, tasks to be security Conscious

The vice chancellor Plateau State University, Bokkos Prof Yohanna Daniel Izam has urge Students of the institution to avoid night activities and report any suspicious movement to the appropriate security authority for appropriate action.

Prof. Izam started this during the varsity matriculation ceremony for 2019/2020 academic session, while Speaking on security challenges bedeviling the country occasioned by kidnapping, banditry, insurgency among others. He said:

“We are collaborating with security agencies to secure the institution environment. Already, plans have been concluded to replace portions of the perimeter fences broken by hoodlums and the election of the fence in the areas hitherto not covered.”

The University has Matriculated about 1,394 fresh students into various academic field of endeavour.

While congratulating the new students, Prof. Yohanna D. Izam said urged them to count themselves a privileged to be among the 1,394 students to have made the list of successful candidates from over five thousand(5000) applicants.

“I urge you to be wary of any actions or steps that you will take as students if this University, as such will either make or mar your future. You must strive to use this golden opportunity to add value to yourselves and the society at large”, the VC stated.

He assured that the school management will continue to create an enabling environment for learning and research through quantitative and qualitative expansion of programmes.

He said fourteen(14) out of the University’s seventeen(17) academic programmes have secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission, NUC, while the other three namely; Geography, Biochemistry and Mass communication have gone through the process of re-accreditation and “we are optimistic that they will scale through successfully.”

The vice Chancellor appreciate the visitor of the University, the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Rt. Hon. Barrister Simon Bako Lalong for his untiring effort in sustaining steady infrastructural and manpower development of the University.

He also thank the host community for their understanding and Goodwill extended to the university

The VC also revealed that a tree planting campaign was introduced to help mitigate the dangers of associated with destructions as a result of windstorm in the recent past.

“Considering the importance of such trees as wind breakers, each of the 1,394 newly matriculated students will be expected to plant a tree and nurture it to maturity, as a date for the campaign will be announced soon.”

He equally call on the students to always adhere to COVID-19 protocols both in hostels and lecture halls.

The events which was held at the institution 600 lecture capacity witnessed great family members Well wishers of the newly matriculated and returning students.

Highlights of the event was The Presentation of Students of each Dean of faculty and Oath taking administered by the University Registra.
