FCMLST To Affiliate With University of Jos For Bsc in Medical Laboratory Science As Verification Team Visits College For Assessment
The delegation of the team from university of Jos was led by Professor Danny McCain and Prof James Damen the dean faculty of medical laboratory Science of university of Jos and other professors and members to access the facilities of the college, the provost of the college Prof. Sunday Etukudoh and his management took the team round the college facilities, the inspection and tour of facilities at the College is for resource verification of the College preparatory for for the affiliation with University Jos to offer Bsc in medical laboratory Science in the institution.
It could be recalled that Prof. Etukudoh’s effort has upgraded the institution from the federal school of medical laboratory Science and technology to federal college of medical laboratory Science and technology which is a great achievement, and the achievements has offered the institution to offer more advanced courses, the team visited the permanent site and old JUTH which is the temporary site to inspect facilities for the affiliation.
Professor Sunday Etukudoh during an interview with journalists thank God almighty for making him upgrade the school to a college he said i am very happy that the University of Jos, after reviewing our submission, found it necessary to send a verification team to our school. The team, led by Professor McCain, physically inspected our facilities, and we are hopeful that, in line with the university’s policy, the act establishing our school, and the requirements of the National Universities Commission (NUC), their recommendation will be positive. This will enable us to attract more resources to strengthen the training of medical laboratory scientists, which is crucial for the health sector.
Speaking about commendations by the team from national assembly about the landmark achievement ofo the institution professor Etukudoh said those commendations are not for him to celebrate myself. I see them as a challenge to do more so that the nation will be better for it. In science, it is essential to have clear goals on where you want to be and how you intend to get there. Oversight bodies like the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the University of Jos visitation team, and the NUC serve as independent assessors of our progress. Their reviews challenge us to be at our best and ensure that anything related to our processes is done properly.
He also said we are very confident that we will pass the verification and accreditation. The observations made by the team have already been addressed through the budgetary process as provided by Mr. President. We have made provisions to rectify any identified gaps, especially in areas like the library and administrative offices, to ensure we meet the necessary standards. We are confident that we will meet the requirements and get a positive report.
Speaking about how significant the accreditation for college and the profession at large Professor Etukudoh said this accreditation is very important to us because it aligns with the global agenda for medical laboratory scientists to develop a curriculum that meets the Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS). I am happy that the University of Jos is compliant with this goal. Our aim is to produce competent, world-class medical laboratory scientists who can compete anywhere in the world. In addition to this, we are committed to training medical laboratory technicians, who play a critical role as support staff for public health centers in Nigeria.
Speaking about how optimistic and how soon should the public expect a positive outcome from the verification professor Etukudoh said they say in my local district, “A well-cooked soup requires sufficient resources.” Nigerians are agitated about the current economic situation, but they should understand that, just like a woman in labor, pain often precedes the birth of something great. The reforms introduced by Mr. President — such as currency unification, fuel subsidy removal, and tax reforms — have laid a solid financial foundation. In the past, capital budget releases were around 10%, but now, with these reforms, we are seeing 100% capital releases. This financial stability has given us the confidence to pursue our development agenda.
With this support, I am very sure that, by the next academic session, we will be able to admit students into the Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science program. The funds are available, and we are ready to deliver on our mandate.
Professor Etukudoh while commending Mr president for his reforms agenda gave his view on the recent appointments in the health sector, especially those of Professor Muhammad Ali Pate as Coordinating Minister of Health and Dr. Isiaku as Minister of State he said appointment of people with the right capacity in key positions is crucial. The Coordinating Minister of Health, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, and the Minister of State, Dr. Isiaku, are seasoned professionals with proven competence. Their leadership gives me confidence that the sector will experience positive change. When you have good people in leadership, you celebrate them, he also called on Nigerians to continue to pray for Mr. President. The policies he is introducing may seem tough now, but they will bring long-term benefits. Through initiatives like this, our healthcare system will be strengthened, and life expectancy will increase. The efforts to improve healthcare facilities will have lasting impacts on our health and well-being.
The leader of the team from university Jos for the verification Professor Danny McCain after taking tour of the facilities at the federal college of medical laboratory Science and technology FCMLST expressed satisfaction with what they show, he commended the provost professor Sunday Etukudoh for a founderful work he has done in transforming the institution, he said we come to inspect the college in relation to its request for affiliation with us. Affiliation simply means that the university grants the degree, and, as such, we are here to inspect the facilities, curriculum, staff, record-keeping, and other key aspects to ensure they meet the standards required by the University of Jos.
Well, this is a new facility, and we are impressed with the infrastructure. There is still a need for additional equipment and more literature in the library. These are normal issues, especially for a new campus. But overall, we like the environment, and we believe the college is making good progress. We look forward to future affiliation if and when all conditions are fully met we are quite satisfied with the current state of things. From what we have observed, the college is doing a commendable job. We are proud to see them as our junior brothers in the training of medical technologists, and we are happy with the progress so far.
