Electoral Amendment Act:Buhari’s reputation as a democrat won’t change if he doesn’t sign the bill- Presidency
Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina insisted that either President Muhamadu Buhari sign the proposed Electoral Amendment Act or not that won’t change his reputation has a democrat.
The Presidency maintained that Buhari would do what appeared best for the winterst of the country.
Speaking on a monitored programme ‘Politics Today’ on Channels Television, Femi Adesina explained that President Buhari is consulting widely to do what is best for the country.
Reacting to the controversy while on interview, Adesina said Buhari’s reptutation as “somebody who wants to leave clean elections for Nigeria has already been made whether the electoral act is signed or not”.
He said;
“In terms of his image for democratic value, that image is made already. It is almost cast in concrete. You will find that one election after the other has been better under President Buhari.
“Under President Buhari, the governing party has lost — states, legislative seats and so many elections.
“It didn’t used to be. It used to be that whichever party was in power won all elections before by hook or crook; not under President Buhari.
“So, his reputation as somebody who wants to leave clean elections for Nigeria has already been made whether the electoral act is signed or not. It doesn’t distract from that reputation.”
